Alfred J. Vaughan (1830-1899)
Alfred Jefferson Vaughan, Jr. was a brigadier general in the Confederate Army. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute and became an engineer. Before the Civil War broke out he raised a company and was commissioned captain of the 13th Tennessee. Vaughan led brigades at Richmond and Stones River before being appointed brigadier general at Chickamauga. His leg was ripped off by a shell at Vining's Station in July, 1864, which ended his active duty.
