Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901)
Giuseppe Verdi was the foremost composer of Italian opera and a master of dramatic composition. "Rigoletto" (1851) was considered his first masterpiece, followed by "Il Trovatore" and "La Traviata," both in 1853. Verdi's subtlety and brilliance reached their culmination in "Aida" (1871). His work was considered the apogee of Italian grand opera.
