Fanny Henning Speed was married to Joshua Fry Speed (1814-1882), who was Abraham Lincoln's most intimate friend from his days in Springfield. The happiness of Joshua and Fanny influenced Lincoln to resume his courtship with Mary Todd and to marry her.
