Frederick Steele (1819-1868)
Frederick Steele was a brevet major general. A West Pointer (1843), he earned two brevets in the Mexican War. After Dug Spring and Wilson's Creek he was named brigadier general of volunteers in January, 1862. At Chickasaw Bluffs he led the 4th Division Yazoo Expedition and was named major general of volunteers in November, 1862.
