Isaac I. Stevens (1818-1862)
Isaac Ingalls Stevens was a major general in the Union Army before he was tragically killed. A West Pointer (1839), he won two brevets in the Mexican War. Stevens became governor of Washington Territory and then a U.S. representative from 1857 to 1861. He was appointed brigadier general of volunteers in September, 1861, and major general of volunteers in July, 1862. Stevens was being considered as the head of the Army of the Potomac when he was killed at Chantilly.
