William O. Stoddard (1835-1925)
William O. Stoddard was one of President Lincoln's three private secretaries (1861-64). Lincoln liked "Stod" and took him along on visits to Secretary of State Seward and General McClellan. Lincoln later appointed him U.S. Marshal in Arkansas. Stoddard was a prolific writer, the author of many children's books and several books on Lincoln and the White House. This print was framed and inscribed by the photograph collector Frederick Hill Meserve for this daugher Dorothy Meserve Kunhardt.
