Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) and Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887)
Henry Ward Beecher and his sister Harriet Beecher Stowe were two of the most famous personalities of the nineteenth centery. Henry Beecher was a Congregational minister whose reputation was tarnished by his affair with a married parishioner. Harriet was the well-known author of the antislavery novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin."
