Leonard Swett (1825-1899)

Leonard Swett was an Illinois politician. He was a great friend of Lincoln who worked behind the scenes in Chicago and helped him win the nomination. Swett was also a prominent criminal laywer and later served as counsel for the Haymarket Anarchists (1886) when they appealed their verdicts.
