George Washington's Compass
This highly decorated compass, circa 1770, was a personal possession of George Washington. Its elaborate dial with a fleur-de-lis pointing north is marked "Rittenhouse - Philadelphia" and was probably made by Benjamin Rittenhouse, whose work was highly decorative, rather than his brother David, known for simplicity.
