Matt W. Ransom (1826-1904)
Matt Whitaker Ransom was a brigadier general of the Confederate Army and a senator from North Carolina. He entered the Confederate Army in 1861 and served throughout the war. He was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate and served from 1872 to 1895. Ransom was U.S. minister to Mexico from 1895 to 1897.
