Jesse L. Reno (1823-1862)

Jesse Lee Reno was a brevet major general of volunteers in the Union Army. After the Mexican War he taught at West Point and went on surveying expeditions in the West. He was named brigadier general of volunteers in 1861. Appointed major general in 1862, he was killed at South Mountain (September 1862). Reno, Nevada, was named for him.
