Robert Reyburn (1833-1909)
Robert Reyburn, a physician and professor of the medical school at Georgetown University, helped to found the medical school at Howard University (1868-1872). He lobbied Congress to create a hospital as part of the Freedman's Bureau in Washington, DC during Reconstruction and then served as its surgeon-in charge. Reyburn appears on this carte de visite from the Julius Ulke studio in Washington, DC, circa 1879.
