John C. New (1831-1906)

John Chalfant New was the U.S. treasurer. He began as a banker, publisher, and lawyer. He was the first assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of the Treasury and U.S. consul general in London. New was U.S. treasurer from 1875 to 1876.
