"Death of Jumonville
" Colonel George Washington, at age 22, led a column of Virginia soldiers and his Indian guides in attacking French troops at Forks of the Ohio. They killed ten Frenchmen including their commander Joseph Coulon Jumonville, in an incident that would provoke the beginning of the French and Indian Wars. This is an engraved illustration from the 1859 book The Illustrated Life of George Washington by J. T. Headley.
