Luis Terrazas (1829-1923)

Luis Terrazas was a politician and general from Mexico. In 1860 he became governor of Chihuahua, where he had established a kind of chieftainship. It is said that Terrazas owned the largest ranch in the world, his seven million acres covering the greater part of Chihuahua. A wealthy entrepreneur (he owned textile mills, granaries, sugar mills, and mines), Terrazas was the personification of the powerful landowners hated by the debt-ridden peons, who sparked the Mexican Revolution.
