Francis Thomas (1799-1876)
Francis Thomas was a U.S. congressman from Maryland from 1831-41 and 1861-69, the governor of Maryland from 1841-44, and the U.S. minister to Peru from 1872-75. Thomas was also a member of the Maryland state house of delegates in 1822, 1827, and 1829, and served the last year as speaker.
