George Thompson (1804-1878)
George Thompson was an English abolitionist and politician. He came to the U.S. as an antislavery lecturer in 1834-35, 1850, and 1864-67. Thompson became friends with William Lloyd Garrison, Sojourner Truth, and Frederick Douglass. His opinions were so radical that he was in danger of being lynched and had to return to England for safety. Even though he was a member of Parliament Thompson had very little means.
