John Pierpont (1785-1866)

John Pierpont was an American poet, reformer, and Unitarian clergyman. He was a prohibitionist and a crusader for the abolition of slavery. Pierpont's poems, especially "Airs of Palestine," are the graceful and facile work of an original and understanding temperament. He was the grandfather of J. P. Morgan.
