H. Rives Pollard (1833-1868)
Henry Rives Pollard was the publisher of the "Enquirer," a Richmond, Virginia, newspaper. He feuded with the publishers of the "Examiner," a rival paper, and the conflict erupted in gunshot in the Rotunda of the Virginia Statehouse. No one was injured. Two years later Pollard was assassinated by James Grant, whose sister Pollard had maligned in his paper.
