Noah Porter (1811-1892)
Porter was an American educator, clergyman, lexicographer, and philosopher. Porter served as a professor of moral philosophy and metaphysics as well as president of Yale University. His chief work, "The Human Intellect," was widely read and published several times. He was also an editor of Noah Webster's "American Dictionary of the English Language" and "Webster's International Dictionary of the English Language."
