John B. Rice (1809-1874)
John Blake Rice was a U.S. representative from Illinois. His professional life began on the stage in New York in 1839 and he eventually became a theater manager, with theaters all over the country. He retired from theatrical management in 1861. Rice became mayor of Chicago from 1865 to 1869. He was elected as a Republican to Congress (1873-74) and died in office.
