James Whitcomb Riley (1849-1916)
James Whitcomb Riley was a poet and humorist, known as the "Hoosier poet" because of his folksy, Indiana dialect and settings. He wrote poems such as "When the Frost is on the Punkin" and "The Old Swimmin' Hole." Riley was also famous as an entertainer and his performances with "Bill" Nye made him a celebrity.
