James B. Ricketts (1817-1887)
James Brewerton Ricketts was a career artillerist. A West Pointer, he fought in the Mexican War but most of his time in the Civil War was spent recovering from injuries. He was wounded four times at 1st Bull Run, captured, and forced to spend months in a Richmond hospital. At Antietam he was badly wounded when his horse was shot from under him. Unfit for field duty he was assigned to the Fitz-John Porter court-martial duty. Brevetted major general of volunteers in August, 1864, he joined Sheridan's command. At Cedar Creek he was permanently disabled.
