Ellis H. Roberts (1827-1918)
Ellis Henry Roberts was a journalist, financier and a Republican politician from New York. He served as the U.S. Representative from New York (1871-75). President Benjamin Harrison appointed Roberts as assistant treasurer of the United States for the subtreasury in New York (1889-93). He then became president of the Franklin National Bank of New York City (1893-97). President William McKinley appointed Roberts treasurer of the United States in 1897, and he continued to serve in that position during Theodore Roosevelt's presidency until 1905.
