Johnston Forbes-Robertson (1853-1937)

Sir Johnston Forbes-Robertson was an English actor and manager. He made his first appearance in 1874. Early on Forbes-Robertson played Romeo but he was best known for his portrayal of Hamlet. In 1882 he toured England and the U.S. playing opposite Mary Anderson. He made his New York debut as Orlando in "As You Like It" in 1885. In 1900 he married Gertrude Elliott, an American actress, the sister of actress Maxine Elliott. Forbes-Robertson was knighted for services to the stage upon his retirement in 1913.
