John C. Robinson (1817-1897)
John Cleveland Robinson was a brevet major general in the Union Army. He was a West Pointer who fought in the Seminole and Indian Wars and the Utah Expedition against the Mormons. At Gettysburg, Robinson, with two brigades, held five Confederate brigades at bay for four hours. He was wounded while leading an attack at Spotsylvania and lost a leg, which ended his field service. He was brevetted major general in June 1864.
