Anton Rubinstein (1829-1894)

Anton Grigoryevich Rubinstein was a Russian composer and pianist, rivaled only by Liszt for his flawless technique. He made his debut in Moscow at age nine. Rubinstein was admired by Mendelssohn, Chopin, and Liszt. He founded the St. Petersburg Conservatory in 1872 and directed it for many years. During his lifetime he was widely admired as a composer.
