David A. Russell (1820-1864)
David Allen Russell was a general in the Union Army. Because of his poor grades at West Point he was sent to the infantry, but he distinguished himself during the Civil War. Russell led the attack at Rappahannock Station, was wounded, and was brevetted brigadier general. At 3rd Winchester he stayed at the head of his men despite a chest wound, but was struck by a shell and killed. He was made major general posthumously.
