Sam E. Ryan (b.1834)
Samuel Erwin Ryan was an Irish actor and comedian. Ryan made his stage debut in Boston as Delph in "Family Jars" (1848). He played star engagements in the principal cities of the U.S. and performed with many leading actresses, such as Maggie Mitchell, Kate Denin, Susan Denin, Julia Daly and Emily Thorne.The actor made his New York debut at the Old Bowery Theatre, in 1851, as Bob Buckskin in "P.P., or the Man and the Tiger." Ryan was the second husband of Kate Denin, who left him in 1867 to go to Australia. In 1883 he married Marah Ellis Ryan (1860-1934), also an actress.
