Adam J. Slemmer (1828-1868)
Adam Jacoby Slemmer was a brigadier general in the U.S. Army during the Civil War. He graduated from West Point in 1850 and taught there. Slemmer entered the Union Army as a major and distinguished himself in the defense of Fort Pickens in Pensacola Bay. Slemmer was then appointed brigadier general of volunteers.
