Gabriel R. Paul (c.1811-1886)

Gabriel Rene Paul, a son and grandson of Napoleonic officers, was a brevet brigadier general in the Union Army. A West Pointer (1834), he fought in the Mexican War. On the first day of the fighting at Gettysburg he lost his sight by a rifle wound and was brevetted brigadier general.
