Lewis Payne (1845-1865)

Lewis Payne (born Lewis Thornton Powell) was one of the conspirators in the Lincoln assassination. He attacked Secretary of State William Seward as well as those attempting to defend Seward, on April 14, 1865. He was hung on July 7, 1865. In this photo he wears manacles.
