John Pegram (1832-1865)
John Pegram was a brigadier general in the Confederate Army. He was graduated from West Point in 1854 and became a cavalry instructor there. In May 1861 he resigned the U.S. Army and was commissioned a lieutenant colonel of the C.S.A. Pegram surrendered to McClellan after being defeated in West Virginia. He was appointed brigadier general in 1862 and was wounded at the Wilderness. Pegram married Hetty Cary of Baltimore in January 1865 and in February he was killed at Hatcher's Run. Historians disagree on whether he was actually made a major general.
