C. S. Morehead (1802-1868)
Charles Slaughter Morehead was a U.S. representative and governor of Kentucky. He was elected to Congress as a Whig for two terms (1847-51). Morehead was then elected governor (1855-59). He attended a peace conference in 1861 in Washington, DC. in an attempt to prevent civil war. He was arrested by the government for disloyalty and imprisoned in Fort Lafayette, New York, until 1862.
