Samuel Finley Breese Morse was a painter and inventor. When he found no patrons for his sculpting and painting, he reluctantly gave them up. Between 1832 and 1837 he began his new career as an inventor. Morse patented his electric telegraph in 1837 and put it into operation in 1844. He also developed the Morse Code.
