John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892)

John Greenleaf Whittier was an American poet and abolitionist. He worked staunchly behind the political scene to further the abolitionist cause as an active antislavery editor. Whittier's best work displays a careful and accurate delineation of New England life, history, and legend.
