Channing M. Williams (1829-1910)
Channing Moore Williams was a Protestant Episcopal bishop and missionary in China and Japan. In 1859 he was appointed to begin the work of the Protestant Episcopal Church in Japan, which had just been opened to foreigners. Williams supervised the construction of the first Protestant church in Japan in 1861. He was consecrated bishop in 1866 and lived for a time in China before returning to Japan.
