This 1876 engraving was based on a a portrait of Jackson painted by John Wood Dodge in 1842. Dodge's painting was a very popular likeness and became the basis for many engravings, funeral ribbons, and stamps. It was the basis for the 1863 "Black Jack" two-cent stamp which was one of the most popular stamps ever issued by the U.S. Post Office.
