Marie Carvalho

Marie Caroline Carvalho (nee Marie Felix-Miolan) was a French soprano. She made her debut at the Paris Opera in 1849, singing from "Lucia di Lammermoor" and from "La Juive." The Opera-Comique engaged her at once. She married Leon Carvalho in 1853. From 1856 to 1867 Marie Carvalho sang at the Theatre-Lyrique. She made her London debut in 1859 at Covent Garden, performing Dinorah in "Le Pardon de Ploermel." Carvalho also appeared in St. Petersburg and Berlin before making her farewell appearance at the Opera-Comique in 1885. In this photo from the Elliott & Fry studio in London Carvalho studies a flower.
