Amy Fawsitt was a remarkable young English actress whose life ended sadly. She began her career in London at the Globe Theatre in 1870. Fawsitt went on to star in tremendously long runs of "London Assurance" and "School for Scandal." To crown her triumph, the young star traveled to New York and made her U.S. debut in September, 1876, in "Life," at Daly's Theatre. But the U.S. audiences did not take to the actress, who was devastated by her failure. Fawsitt died a few months later, in December of 1876, apparently of tuberculosis. Amy Fawsitt poses here in a riding costume with a dashing hat and crop at the London Stereoscopic & Photographic Company, circa 1875.
