Margaret Gatty (1809-1873)
Known as Mrs. Alfred Gatty, Margaret Scott Gatty was an editor, writer of children's books, and landscape artist. In 1866 she became editor of "Aunt Judy's Magazine," and remained editor until her death in 1873. Her husband, Alfred Gatty, was the vicar of Ecclesfield. There were eight children, all of whom followed careers or creative endeavors of their own. The family is the subject of a book, "The Remarkable Gatty Family of Ecclesfield," by Joan and Mel Jones.
