Marie Litton (1847-1884)
Marie Litton was an actress and theater manager. She was a favorite of dramatist W. S. Gilbert in his early career. Litton headed the St. James' Theatre in London during the 1870s and took over the New Chelsea Theatre, renaming it the Royal Court, in 1871. Here Litton staged several of W. S. Gilbert's early plays. Litton directed Glasgow's Theatre Royal when it reopened in 1880. This British carte de visite was produced by Elliott & Fry, 55 & 56 Baker Street, London.
