Sophie Menter (1846-1918)
Sophie Menter was a German pianist and composer. She was a pupil of Sigmund Lebert, one of the founders of the Stuttgart Conservatory, and also was taught by Franz Liszt, who believed her to be a very promising player. From 1883 to 1886 Menter taught piano at St. Petersburg Conservatory. Although she was more famous as a performer, Menter was also a creative composer. Her compositions are all for piano.
