Isabelle Hill, Mrs. Howard Paul (1833-1879)

Born Isabelle Hill, but using the stage name “Miss Featherstone,” Mrs. Howard Paul was an actress and vocalist, married to the comic writer and actor Howard Paul. She made her stage debut in 1853 as Tom Tug in "The Waterman," at The Strand, and successfully played Captain Macheath in "The Beggar’s Opera," on several occasions. Other plays included "Macbeth," and "Babil and Bijou," and work with Richard D'oyly Cartes' Opéra Comique. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Paul often appeared together as a comedy team, both throughout England and in the U.S. This carte de visite is from a series called "Wednesday Programme, Gallery of Celebrities, Photograph from Life."
