Nelson A. Miles (1834-1925)
Nelson Appleton Miles was awarded the Medal of Honor for personal bravery during the Civil War. He became a career soldier and was involved in the capture and shameful treatment of the Native American leader Geronimo. Miles ultimately was named commander-in-chief of the army in 1895.
