Algernon Sartoris (1851?-1893)
The Englishman Algernon Charles Frederick Sartoris, the son of the famous opera singer Fanny Kemble, married Emily Wrenshall Grant (1855-1922), the only daughter of President Ulysses S. Grant. On May 21, 1874, they were married in a magnificent wedding in the East Room of the White House. Grant bitterly opposed the marriage; he considered Sartoris to be immature and vain. Nellie divorced him after her father's death.
