Jacob Gould Schurman (1854-1942)
Jacob Gould Schurman was an American educator, philosopher, and diplomat. Schurman founded the "Philosophical Review" in 1892, the first American scholarly journal of philosophy. He became president of Cornell in 1892, and turned the small private college into a major university. He later served as ambassador to Greece, Montenegro, China, and Germany.
