Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832)

Sir Walter Scott was a very prolific and popular novelist from Scotland. He was also a skillful and talented poet. Scott had a gift for recreating historical events and sketching realistic images of Scottish life. In 1820 Scott was made a baronet. One of his best known poems was "The Lady of the Lake" (1810). His first novel, "Waverley" (1814), was an instant success, as was "Ivanhoe" (1820). Scott was the first master of the historical novel. This carte de visite is an engraved copy of a painting.
