George Francis Train (1829-1904)
George Francis Train was an American merchant, promoter, author, and eccentric. Train announced himself a candidate for the presidency in 1869, traveled around the world in eighty days in 1870, and in the same year joined the French Communists and was expelled from France. While defending Victoria Woodhull, he was jailed on obscenity charges. Train wrote numerous books about his travels around the world and his financial adventures.
