John Trumbull (1756-1843)
John Trumbull was known as the painter of the Revolution. Trumbull's forte was contemporary history. His brilliant "Declaration of Independence" painting is the most important visual record of that historic moment; thirty-six of the forty-eight portraits were from life. This engraving was made from the original painting by Chappel in the possession of Johnson, Fry & Co. Publishers in New York.
